The Weedern farm is proficient in breeding pedigree sheep: the farm has been awarded the status of a pedigree-livestock breeder for the Romanovskaya breed sheep. It is an ancient meat-wool breed, the woolfell of which is highly valued all over the world.
The Romanovskaya breed was started under the order of Peter I in the XVII century. The Red Army solders wore garments made of Romanosvkaya sheep during the World War II, that is why the breed is sometimes called ‘military’. In the Post-Soviet times, the breed was almost completely lost due to extensive use of cheap synthetics.
